Human-O2 for SMplayer

Actually, SMplayer is strictly a Qt app, with no KDE dependencies:

apt-cache depends smplayer
smplayer
Depends: libc6
Depends: libgcc1
Depends: libqt4-core
Depends: libqt4-gui
Depends: libstdc++6
|Depends: mplayer
mplayer-nogui

Replaces: smplayer-translations

I was using xine for many years, but it lacked some features I needed, so I turned my eyes to Mplayer. It was perfect, but what it lacked was a powerful yet easy to use GUI. Of all GUIs I tried SMPlayer is by far the best. Keep up the great work! - Sep 15 2008

Your logo seems to be inspired by the apple logo. I think Linux should have a distinctive look that doesn't resemble anything else on the market. - Mar 23 2008

Protect Freedom From Ubuntu

Cliparts by ubuntuworm 18 comments

You're a Debian fan, and you feel that Ubuntu is taking credit for someone's else work, and stealing the fame from Debian. Well, the debian developers are to blame actually. It was an almost perfect distro, the choice #1 for a geek. Was. Past tense. They blew their chance, by ignoring their most serious problems, lack of leadership being the most serious. Ubuntu has what Debian lacks: short release cycle, excellent documentation, friendly community (the attitude of some Debian users has become widely known, and often mocked) and sane leadership. Ubuntu is a user friendly distro, with a great repository and an ever-growing community. It has made linux an OS for everybody, not just for some nerds. Of course, Ubuntu made it so far by using what Debian has created, but hey - this is freedom. You can't sue them - for example, Debian uses patches made by Red Hat developers. - Sep 10 2007

Let's be completely honest - Windows isn't innovative too - it's a MacOS ripoff (compare screenshots of windows 1.0 and MacOS 1.0 -- which of them resembles modern windows more?). MacOS also derived graphical widgets from Xerox. Moreover, many ideas of many DEs are from Sun's CDE. So there's no DE or WM that's completely original.

What I propose is no to abandon all that is similar to windows or OS/2 or MacOS X or Solaris or anything. I just wish that ppl would not just copy everything, but take only good ideas, combine and modify them, add their own and therefore create something new. My major concern is usability. Now, KDE's usability is way better than Vista's, so copying Vista themes is like a downgrade IMO. - Apr 01 2007
ColdWinter-v3

deKorator Themes by cobranail 12 comments

...why so many ppl like Vista windecos. They might look nice, but look at them from the POV of usability:

Window borders are way too thick. I mean, they're just plain waisting screen space (window titlebar also takes space, but at least you can see the window title there). Action buttons are shifted from the corner - so one has to aim when closing a maximized window. With almost any other theme you could just move the mouse to the corner and click - then the current maximized window is closed.

Why nobody sees that MS sucks at usability (look at MS Office 2007 or IE 7 - they are close to unusable)? Is it worth copying blindly? - Mar 31 2007

... Actually, you've put windows logo on the white side... Bright, active, upward, hot, expanding, and strong?

On the other hand, Windows *is* expanding - one needed about 50 Mb to install '95, now one needs 15 Gb (not insluding the swap). It makes your HDD spin as crazy while swapping, so it's active. And it makes your CPU hot as hell. Not sure abouut "upward" and "strong" though... - Mar 14 2007
