Your image is great! The only bad thing is that the kde-look.org is hard to read (due to the font). IMO, "www.kde-look.org" should be the first word tth viewer notices. - Jan 24 2005
Wipsplash screen

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by pernambuco 3 comments

I don't know what this splash is about, so my comment is about the technical side. The icon transition with the background should be smoother and shouldn't have these white borders. The image is too blurry. If the issues are corrected, it will be a nice-looking splash. - Jan 23 2005

The picture is nice, but the Tux has too little polygons IMO, and his head looks strange. I think making the neck a little thinner would improve the look of the picture. - Jan 21 2005
kstatus superkaramba theme

Karamba & Superkaramba by karraskal 54 comments

That is the most stupid question I've seen. Software usually does not bear the sign of sexual orientation of its author. If it is open-source, you can examine the sources to find out wether the program has any suspicious lines of code or comments. When I am about to download a software package, I am interested in its functionality and license. I don't care wether or not the author is a passive necrophile or something.

2 the author: nice theme! Keep up the good work!
BTW, where did you get that wallpaper - Jan 20 2005
USSR: Soviet Era

KDE 3.x Splash Screens by illusionist7 13 comments

Nice splash, I like it. However, I found some little problems:
1. The preview for USSR-back is the same as the preview for USSR-RUS, should be different
2. Not exactly a bug - splash_active_bar.png has some jpeg-alike compression artifacts (which is weird as png supposed to be a lossless format).
3. Also not a bug - in the USSR-back splash-top the logo has pixelated borders. I think a smoother transition to background would make the image nicer. - Jan 19 2005

Improving KDE

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by andrunko 313 comments

The improvements are great! I love them! There is one thing that could be added. I think you noticed that icon text on the desktop drops a not-so-good shadow. There was a post concerning this: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=12380

The funniest thing is that KDE itself has several advanced options for shadows (and techniques for drawing such shadows are implemented), but there is no GUI config for that. I think adding the option to change the shadow (for example, a combobox to select one of the presets, like KDE standard, WinXP and MacOS X shadows) to kcontrol would be greatly appreciated by many users. IMO, this would be a good addition to your excellent patches.

BTW, Happy New Year! - Dec 31 2004
Proposed default kde theme

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by sewagemaster 10 comments

And what about "Redmond", and "CDE" styles? Aren't they "inspired" by win9x and CDE respectively? They are included in kde default packages, so a user running kde for the first time can choose the Look'N'Feel he likes: CDE, Windows, KDE-2x like and MacOS classical. Why not to include something that looks like MacOS X? Just don't include anything as bloat-looking as Luna-clones :)

Another proposal: in kde first time config dialog there should be a line saying: "For more styles/themes/icons/wallpapers visit www.kde-look.org" - this site would get more visitors and, probably, submitters! - Dec 29 2004

Well, the ideas of both Open Source and Free Software don't forbid to hate windows. Personally I became a linux user because I was fed up with EULAs, BSODs, CLSIDs and poorly designed APIs. I hated winblows and seeked an alternative. Tux breaking windows logo with a hammer is a good symbol of what's going on. Linux is conquering the market. In, say, 5 or 10 years windows would be extinct.
We shouldn't blindly hate microsoft. We should hate it, taking into consideration that it is corrupting users, filling the web with broken pages compatible with IE only (blame FrontPage?), producing a great amount of semi-g33ks that actually know nothing (as windows gives them an impression of power and knowledge by not offering advanced features any UNIX has). This is my opinion. - Dec 03 2004

Well, Lindows (now Linspire) is definately not for geeks, but we must admit it does many useful things - for example, it sponsors kde-look.

What do you mean - not free? If you mean "free like free beer", then most of the distros are "not free". Most of the programs Lindows distributes are "free like free speech".

Personally I dislike their idea "you don't have to compile the tarball". The funniest thing about linux is compiling everything that has sources, that's why I love Gentoo. But there are people that just want something that "just works". Better they use Linspire than winblows. - Dec 03 2004

The 0.91 release is great, as always. However, there is one little problem: there are so many options in the configuration dialog that it barely fits to the screen (I have to hide the panel to be able to use OK, Cancel and Apply buttons). I use 1152x864 resolution. Pehaps some options could be split into several tabs (like in ActiveHeart config dialog).

P.S. I can't wait to see the 1.0 release. Keep up the great work! - Dec 03 2004

The "I hate KDE" wallpaper is very funny - I'd even think it was created as a parody. Unfortunately, trolls are still using the internet (they are probably doing that at night, as, according to Tolkien, sunlight convert them into stone :)).

I think you meant OS?

No, linux was not my first OS. My first OS was winblows, and I started to hate it after a month. Unfortunately, I had no alternative (as I saw nothing but windows everywhere - in school, organisations, etc). Now I have an alternative.

I was motivated to create the wallpaper by several braindead windows zealots at the university. They saw that I use Gentoo on my notebook and started to argue that windows is better. Funny that at the same time one of the windows PCs in the room catched a worm. They saw it but refused to agree that windows is "TeH SuX".

BTW, don't you like the fire? I discovered that it can easily be done using the smudge tool, and wandered where to use this fire. I was in the bad mood today and the idea came easily.

If this image offends you, just tell, and I will delete it (or replace with something less aggressive). - Nov 28 2004

The orange ribbon supporting Ukraine ...

Karamba & Superkaramba by TokRa 9 comments

Does the world need another american-style "democracy" when there is no real choice? IMO, both candidates are bad, as Russian domination isn't any better or worse than the president licking Bush's ass. In my opinion, the president should be someone else - the one who will bring true prosperity and independence to the region.
P.S. I don't live in Ukraine, but my grandparents came from there, and I do care about what is going on there. - Nov 28 2004
