Thanks for the comments!

I've wanted to include EXIF functionality as well, but it turns out that its not possible to do currently within a HTML export theme because that information is not passed down to the theme when exporting a gallery.

You should submit a feature request at bugs.kde.org to add this ability. If you post the bug number back here I'll certainly vote for it too.

cheers,

Thanks for the comments.

I actually don't have a RAW version of those pictures because I took those before I bought a digital SLR (they were taken with a tiny Canon point-and-shoot). But I'll see what I can do about posting one of them as a wallpaper. Cheers. - Jul 27 2007
I still cannot reproduce this behavior. There is nothing in the generated HTML that treats full rows differently than partial rows. What browser are you using? Does it happen in both konqueror and firefox? If you could send me the html that would be useful. Thanks for the input! - Jul 15 2007
I don't have access to digikam 0.9.2 from work, so I'll have to work on this once I get home. In the meantime I'll add back the link to previous versions that don't have as many lytebox parameters. - Jul 13 2007
I don't think the HTMLExport plugin allows the theme to specify tabs currently. Perhaps for now I'll just make sensible defaults for many of the lesser used options?

Could you send me the html (or a link) to one of the galleries that is exhibiting the line breaks? That would make debugging much easier.

-w - Jul 13 2007
The comments are already displayed as captions under the images. In the 3rd screenshot example the caption is "more beams." Maybe I don't understand, is this not what you had in mind? - Jul 12 2007
Unfortunately this is not something I can change at the theme level. The file naming is done by the HTMLExport plugin before the theme even gets applied. - Jul 11 2007
Glad to hear you got it to work! - Jul 09 2007
What version of DigiKam and kipi-plugins are you using? I forgot to mention that I developed this for the most recent version of DigiKam (version 0.9.2 with kipi-plugins 0.1.4). The HTML export in kipi-plugins 0.1.4 added a lot of new functionality. I'll see if its possible to make a version of the theme that works with the older version of kipi-plugins. - Jul 08 2007
Hmmm. I'm not an expert at debugging this (this is my first time with xslt and the Kipi HTML export system) but what you are describing sounds like the webpage you are generating doesn't find the referenced css stylesheets and javascript files. Can you post a bit more information, e.g.: the contents of the index.html file and the directory listing of all generated files. - Jul 08 2007

I miss the old file renamer. Ever since the dialog was changed I have not been able to use JuK to rename my files.

The problem is that you can only use a specific id3 tag field once with the current dialog. This does not work with my directory structure. I would like to be able to rename files using this structure:

/home/music/Artist/Album/Artist - Track - Title.mp3

I was able to do this before, but now this seems impossible, or am I missing something? Please consider adding this functionality back. - Aug 31 2005
kdesvn

Developers Apps by alwin 175 comments

Overall this looks nice. I have been waiting for a nice kde svn client for a while. Some more suggestions:

1) bring up a dialog to accept the password. First time I tried to run "Log" I thought the application froze. After a few minutes I realized that it was asking for my password to the repository on the command line.

2) The context menu should maybe be reorganized. It could be organized in submenus to reduce the clutter. According to my count, there are 22 menu entries in the context menu.

3) It could be nice to somehow show what svn command will be executed when you run a particular command in kdesvn. This could allow svn commandline veterans to be more comfortable choosing a kdesvn command and not wondering what it will actually translate to.

4) I switched to kde svn kpart mode when in the parent folder of a repository. It complained that it was not an svn repository, but provides no way to navigate out of the current folder. You either had to change the location using the address bar, or switch to another view mode. Perhaps at least some basic folder navigation should still be provided.

5) This next point is a rather big project, but in the future I think it would be nice to not have to switch to another view mode when in an svn repository directory. The normal view modes should just recogonize this and provide an extra submenu in the context menu for performing svn operations such as committing and retrieving logs, etc. - Aug 20 2005
CopyCover (amaroK Script)

Amarok 1.x Scripts by gauret 141 comments

I've wanted something like this for a while, great work!

I have a suggestion though. Konqueror integration would be great... You could add an option to create a .directory file within the song's folder that has the following in it:

[Desktop Entry]
Icon=./front.png

Of course replacing front.png with the actual configured cover filename.

The will make the icon for the directory be the album's cover image. It might also be a good idea to not modify the .directory file if it already exists. - Apr 01 2005

Kaffeine Player

Also forgot to mention one more thing. In previous version it was possible to pause/play using the space bar. Now that functionality has been separated into two keyboard shortcuts, so I cannot use the same key to pause and then resume playing. I realize this is probably highly subjective, but I preferred the old way better (and it seems to be more common among other players too). - Feb 14 2005
Kaffeine Player

Video Apps by juergenk 179 comments

I have been using kaffeine for quite a while and though overall I like the new version, here are some of things I find lacking:

* I agree that a tab widget for a playlist is a bad idea. Yes, you can undock it, but I think a method like sidebars in konq/amorok or how juk does the tag editor would be a much better idea. It's a bad idea to not be able to see the video playing if you want to modify the playlist. All functionality of the player should compliment the viewing of media, instead of obstruct it.

* I like that I can play videos in fast or slow motion in the new version. However, why is this limited to only 1x and 2x? It would be nice to have even faster modes, perhaps increasing by a power of 2 each time: 2, 4, 8. Also, I feel that calling them 1x and 2x fast forward is very confusing. 1x to me means its playing at normal speed.

* Has the ability to skip by n seconds been removed? This was really useful. Could you please add the ability to skip ahead or backwards by a configurable amount of time?

* Seems that reverse/rewind has been totally removed. You can now fast forward, and go in slow motion, but you cannot skip backwards? As I'm writing this it seems I discovered that you can skip using the mouse wheel. But it would still be nice to have it as a possible keyboard shortcut, and have the amount of skip time be configurable.

BTW, If I am incorrect in some of the above, I would love to be corrected.

thanks for the great program. - Feb 14 2005

Audio Apps by wheeler 53 comments

I love this program! However, there is still one or two things that I wish it would do. The main thing is with the file renamer: I want the ability to pad the track number with leading 0's so that tracks will look like: Artist - 01 - Song Name.mp3. Currently, that would be: Artist - 1 - Song Name.mp3. This doesn't however sort correctly in most filemanagers (including konq). It would be great if this little addition could make it into the next version. Great work! - Jul 08 2004
Improved accessiblity!

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Figurehead 12 comments

Yes, and this is why you can change the default icon size for all toolbars. If you do this then you won't have small buttons that are hard to aim at and click.

Furthermore, if implemented at all, this seems like it should/could be a style specific option rather than an option that overrides border sizes in all styles. - Apr 16 2004

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Figurehead 12 comments

I think this is very much a subjective matter rather than a "factual" usability improvement. I for one much prefer the small amount of space between icons and toolbars. The spacing for the address bar in your mock-ups, to me, looks especially excessive.

Just my two cents. - Apr 15 2004
KRename

System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by domseichter 83 comments

I tried Krename a couple weeks back and it ended up not fullfilling my needs because it wouldn't allow me to start the number sequence at an arbitrary value. This seems like a crucial feature, as well as being about to specify the step amount. I ended up using the rename plugin for gwenview, forgot its name - maybe gwenrename.

In any case, this is really meant as a feature request. Hope it finds its way into a future version. - Apr 13 2004

"It's much easier than chaning tall the ID3 tags."

Actually, one of the nice things about Juk is that changing many ID3 tags at once really IS easy. Just search for versions with "The" in them, select them all, and rename their artist all at once.

To avoid this problem, if a song is by "The Band" I generally label them as "Band, The". It really is easy to do. - Mar 18 2004

A bit better, but IMO this is a bit obscure, and the user info item is still the 3rd to last in the menu (but at least its not within a submenu). I hope this doesn't pass as being bitchy, just trying to voice my opinion on usability. - Mar 10 2004

But there are a couple of showstoppers for me which prevent me from switching from Gaim. I thought I would share them here hoping that, if they aren't already being worked on, this would help to fix these minor problems.

The two most common things I (and argueably others) do when on IM is to send an instant message, and to check the status/info of a buddy. Sending an IM is quick, either double click, or right click and its the first menu item. To get buddy info, however, I must right click, mouse all the way down to the bottom item, go into a submenu, and go all the way down to the 3rd to bottom item. This just seems silly.

In trying to figure out a quick way to get buddy info, I thought maybe there is a buddy info button I can add to some toolbar, but I could not find any.

I have not found a way to fix these two related issues, but I am far from an expert of kopete, so I may have missed something. Is there a way to fix these? - Mar 04 2004

Full Icon Themes by everaldo 132 comments

I just wanted to offer a possible suggestion to improve some (IMHO) inconsistencies or potentially confusing aspects of the icons (from a usability standpoint).

The icon for favorites and services are almost identical (both are yellow stars). This can be rather confusing as two totally different concepts are represented using two virtually indistinguishable icons (especially at small sizes like in the navigation panel in konq).

In addition, I have noticed that the favorite's folder icon uses a heart as opposed to the star. Possibly this is due to the fact that Crystal is constantly a work in progress. But in any case, for consistency, I think that a single visual representation should be presented for such a concept. In fact, I think that both these concerns could be addressed by switching the favorites icon to a heart (keeping the heart overlayed on a folder for the favorites' folder icon) while keeping the yellow start for services. Obviously other ways exist for fixing this slight inconsistency, but this seemed like the easiest since it requires the least creation of new icons.

Comments anyone? - Feb 19 2004

gwenview

Graphic Apps by bk12 103 comments

When using gwenview I always have smoothscale on so that the resized images look better. The one problem I have run into that could easily be fixed is very slow response using autozoom when resizing the various docked windows in gwenview.

I see two ways to fix this:

1) you could temporarily disable smoothscale while the mouse is resizing the windows.

2) in most cases when i resize windows, the size of the previewed image doesn't even change at all (in autozoom mode when shrinking the dimension which has extra space). in this situation, resizing of the image could/should be avoided all together.

I would love to see this addition in gwenview! - Jan 11 2004

Dude, the GPL totally doesn't apply here. In fact, it doesn't apply to any wallpapers that are posted here unless they are accompanied by the source files used to create them. In this case you would have to post the scene file you used, as well as the textures. But since the textures in this case as owned by Microsoft, you are out of luck.

Seriously, I'm not surprised that no one takes GNU/Linux seriously if its own users don't apply the GPL correctly. - Oct 10 2003

Just tried it and it looks nice. My main complaint so far would be that dragging windows is rather hard. When I try to drag a window it only works after I have dragged it a long distance, and then I can go back and put it where i wanted it before I let go of the mouse button. It seems to be using the normal drag and drop functionality (or so i think) and that has a threshold for a certain amount of pixel before it thinks that you are actually dragging. This would be desired behavior for most circumstances, but not here. Is there any chance this would be fixed? Thanks. - Sep 29 2003

When I first tried the new scrollbars with the lines instead of the dots, I didn't really like them. But I do agree that the dots are pretty hard to see using certain color schemes (the default Plastik color scheme being one of them).

The main problem I had with the new scrollbars was that the lines went all the way across the grips. I think that it would look much better if the lines stopped a few pixels before the edge of the grips. Just my opinion though. - Sep 19 2003

XMMS Skins by Cosine 18 comments

I just tried it and figured I would give some suggestions about how, I think, this could be improved.

The first thing I noticed was how much space the damn thing takes up. I like to keep my kicker set as large, and this takes up about a 5th of my kicker space because the buttons are laid out horizontally. Perhaps you could change it to see if the kicker is big enough vertically to show the buttons in a grid for instance - like what the system tray applet does.

Secondly, I would recommend adding tooltips so that you can figure out what each button does if the icons aren't found. On my system, using crystal 0.9, what I think is supposed to be rewind shows up as a New document icon.

I would have liked to be able to hide xmms completely, so its not even visible in the taskbar when minimized, but it looks like you may have added an update that does that. I'll check it out.

I was able to get it to compile also once I commented out line 135 of src/xmms.cpp. However the jumpto command doesn't work now obviously. If this is compiling for you, then perhaps you forgot to include a source file somewhere. doing a grep for xmms_remote_show_jump_box only returned that one source file which calls the function.

thanks. - Sep 19 2003

Another issue I just noticed is with the playback scrollbar. When its at the beginning or end it covers up the very far ends of the groove which it lies in and the groove doesn't look complete. I think this has to do with your transarency issues. I think you should be able to make the scrollbar grip thing transparent on the edges so that you can have it drawn directly over the groove. In addition, I think that the groove is too long for the scroller, its hard to tell if we are at the very beginning or end of a song.

Another thing I noticed is that the title bar text is extremely blurry. Especially the playlist title text. What are you using to anti-alias the text? - Sep 18 2003

This is very nice, now I can have xmms match my kde style. I have one problem however. I don't think that the window title should read Plastik. Thats not intuitive at all; I'm not running a program called Plastik, I'm running xmms. Using the Plastik window decoration doesn't plaster the word "Plastik" in all my KWin titlebars. I don't think that this should either. If that were fixed, and the rounded edges, this would be perfect. Thanks. - Sep 18 2003

I think that a new bug may have been introduced with the new tab code. If you have too many tabs to fit on the screen, then konq will add a little left and right arrow at the top right. Normally, if you can see all the left-most tabs the left arrow will be disabled, and if you can see all the right-most tabs, the right arrow is grayed out. This is no longer the case, the arrows are always enabled.

There is another small annoyance I have, though it seems to be the case with alot of styles, so I'm not sure if it is possible to fix. Since the buttons and lineedits have rounded corners, there is a light-grey pixel at the of the four corners. These become very apparent when viewing an html page with a dark background. Would it be possible to make these 4 corners transparent instead of a fixed light color? - Sep 01 2003
