KXDocker with REAL Transparency

This is really nice. As always, you come up with some fantastic software. The icons over windows is the one thing that's missing from osXBar, and you've implemented it here perfectly.

Some feedback:

- The bar is not centred on my 1024x768 desktop.

- When I change the icon resolution (in the xml file) to 64 small and 128 big, the bar becomes bigger, but the bottom is off the screen, and it is not centred.

- I get a segfault if I right click on the bar.

- When the bar returns to rest after a mouse out event, it doesn't return completely to rest. Also it happens to fast. I liked the slower animation with osXBar (although if you could make it smoother, that would be cool).

- I miss the mouse-wheel feature of osXBar. When will the rest of the osXBar features be implemented?

thanks for listening, and thanks for the time and effort you put into this.

You are not running the theme, you are running a debug script, which I use occasionally to try and fix problems. To run the theme, you need the command:

superkaramba liquid_weather.theme

Good luck.

KWin drop shadow patches

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by Deciare 131 comments

Copy the relevant .patch file to:

/path/to/konstruct/kde/kdebase/work/kdebase-3.2.0/kwin

then (in that directory), type:

make clean

then patch the source using the command:

patch -p0 ?kdebase.kwin-kwin_shadow.patch

PLEASE NOTE that the '?' mark needs to be replaced with a "less-than" sign - I don't know how to get this thing to not interpret a less-than sign as an html tag.

then type:

make install

You may need to be root if you're installing kde outside your home directory.

You will need to restart kde (or kwin) for the change to take effect. - Feb 07 2004

Not wanting to be a "RTFM" developer, but if you read the FAQ, which is available from the "Configure" menu, then you'd know that there is an option in the "Configure" menu to disable threading (as of version 1.9). This will fix your threading issue.

If you also read the changelog for version 1.9, you would have found the fix for this :)

This is a threading problem. If you are using Suse, one user has suggested removing the "desktop" parameter from the boot parameters in lilo/grub.

I may add an option to disable threading.

If you use superkaramba v0.33, then you shouldn't have any problems with font size. With v0.33, fonts are specified by pixel size, and not point size, so it should all fit together relative to the rest of the widget.

I also fail to see how your fix would have any effect on text size. It doesn't refer to any text objects.

It's only sporadically active. I'd like to work out how to parse xml properly in python using an xml parser, rather than regular expressions, but it all seems a bit beyond my comprehension, and the documentation seems to assume that you've read and understood the document, so that you can read and understand the document. Kind of like recursive learning.

Re SK itself, don't know. Adam seems to be reasonably active on the mailing list on sourceforge, and I've seen some patches posted on there. Maybe he's run out of ideas?

To set a proxy, then set the following environment variable:

maybe put it in your .bashrc, or write a wrapper script to launch superkaramba.

Sorry, should have added that the speed improvements comes from not caching the maps everytime you update. I think this is a good compromise as, I'm sure people don't use the maps all that often, and it would be horrendous to download all those maps (about 20). It also improves stability. But I'll look into bringing back the local maps.

It's difficult to change fonts in an intelligent way without getting into a bit of pyGTK or pyQT programming, and I'm not that advanced.

In terms of multiple themes, the terms of the license I use to get weather.com data prohibits displaying data from more than one city in one instance. However, there would be nothing stopping you from copying the files into a new directory, say liquid_weather_plus_1, and then renaming the files liquid_weather.theme and liquid_weather.py to something like liquid_weather_1.theme and liquid_weather_1.py. You could then start it using:

superkaramba liquid_weather_1.theme

Haven't tested it, but it might work.
