Nice photo. You could improve it with some image corrections, e.g. using Gimp. There are good tutorials for Gimp at

Especially this one improves your picture a lot and is easy to do:

KDE 3.5 Themes by kzaty 11 comments

You can have themes in Kde. The theme manager is there in kcontrol and looks quite usable for this task.

The question is the amount of themability. Its not trivial to pack anything in a theme and install (and uninstall) it with a theme manager. So it is usually reduced to the easier things like colors, widget styles, icons, etc. - Nov 21 2004

Kmenu (idea)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by andrej 14 comments

IMO it would replace what sub menus do now. Only that sub menus do it better, as they utilize the rest of the screen too.

IMO its not good to change the gui behaviour for not much benefit.

Just stumbled across something. After installing GwenView the popup menu on images in Konqueror looked different. This is because GwenView installs itself as the default plugin for image viewing. If you do not like this (like me), you have to manually change it in the mime type settings for each image type GwenView supports.

IMO GwenView should not set itself to the default. - Aug 16 2004

Nice to see gwenview mature over time :-)

The only thing that I still dislike is your custom hand cursor over the preview image. In times of X cursor themes this looks quite outdated.

I replaced them (in the sources) with the standard ArrowCursor and SizeAllCursor when dragging. Looks better (IMO) and uses the current cursor theme.

Nevertheless, good work!

These pictures look quite strange. I think I like the second one more :-)

The first one has very nice colors, but the "dark" white clouds need some fixing (IMO). Maybe either make them more transparent, or do not darken them that much. Or a combination of both :-)

Nice icons :-)

One thing that jumps into my eye: the konsole/xterm icon has a "C:\" in it.

It would be much better, IMO, to replace it with something more Unix like, e.g. "~!$" (Prompt for normal user in his home)

From the Qt documentation:

The QImage class provides a hardware-independent pixmap representation.

In other words: overhead when painting. Use QPixmap with a QPainter instead and it should be faster. And use bitBlt (in QPaintDevice docu) for transfering the image to the QWidget. - Mar 04 2004
