... wasn't a GNOME versus KDE thing. It was a criticism of GNOME's appearance as shown in the preview screenshots. I agree that it's much more polished than what's pictured in the early GNOME 2 screenshots you pointed out. The thing is, despite being more polished, it still "feels" the same -- fine for people who like the base theme, but I'm not one of them.

I'll try to put it in words... GNOME looks professional. Industrial. Serious. Predictable. Mundane. KDE, on the other hand, looks inviting. Residential. Fun. Optimistic. Artistic.

I use this computer at home to unwind, to relax, and occasionally to do work. Is it any wonder I prefer the KDE style? - Feb 09 2002

It makes ne sense to compare gnome & kde by their look, since both are themifiable.

One can just rip all icons from this theme and make Kde look like gnome, it is easy.

Very nice wp & icons. other than that it's just plain buggy bloated ugly as hell gnome.
Us real people use a functional feature rich desktop (rara?) and don't have a desktop/server just to showoff or stare at the whole day.

... appearance, particularly with default or default-related settings, yields the impression that everything is made of wet, squishy, sticky clay. It is certainly not what I want to think about every time I look at my desktop.

Size and photorealism have nothing to do with it -- it's the colour. There's waaaaaay too much emphasis on army-green shades and everything looks too dark. The thick black lines around everything don't help, either.

I sincerely hope that KDE retains its bright, crisp and clean look-and-feel. - Feb 08 2002

yeah the official statement. you may want to join irc.gimp.org #gnome and stay there for hmmmmm 3 years ? and then you get a real clue what gnome DEVELOPERS really think about it. not to mention all these nice comments on gnome-private mailinglist that no one is supposed to read.

...your ripped content. it is a nice screenshot indeed. if you would be honest and link the site where you ripped it off, it would be evererybody's free choice to read "not recommended for being used at this point".

but you are but so fed up with your trolling, that you can't even see what damage you are doing to gnome, which is a very nice desktop. but it needs real people. developers. not trolls like you.

well, you seem to have profound arguments at hand at times you need them (I noted other comments *gg*)

why not try to combine your efforts at argueing and imaging, then == inventing a hit-it-with-the-hammer slogan for KDE 3.0

what we need is some true marketing, I suppose you are the right person to get something solid going with that

open source, open desktops, open graphics, open marketing *gg*

as opposed to the recent win xp campaigns

T====H====O====U====G====H====T====S

anyone know, why m$ is hiding that small xp logo in a field of seducing greens / blues?

yeah, I do dude: given that logos of 95,98,98SE,ME series grew with the installation size of the standard system (not touching the bugs yet) MS felt that it was time to create something people find interesting and sth that has true proportions to what is packaged. so no lies anymore...

you get 1.5 GB of green software now and 0.1 Gig of what really matters at M$, the logo in the middle - Feb 08 2002

Windows 2000 Theme

KDE 2 Themes by asifalirizwaan 28 comments

Several points to make for you people:

1) Watch your spelling and grammar.

2) Despite all your complaining some 3000+ people have downloaded it... Apparently some people still do like the theme.

3) Whether or not _YOU_ care for your computer to look like Windows is not the point.

4) How the GUI looks ( Especially in this case ) has very little to do with the actual performance of the OS.

5) What are you even doing looking at a theme you're not interested in? Just roaming the internet looking for a flame war?

6) Personally, I am a big fan of Mac... Even though I loved Mac, I get tired of people who said "Mac rules and Windowsnt"

7) Mac OS, Linux, and Windows all have their pros and cons. None of your flames will change how bad or good an OS is. - Feb 08 2002

You can unpack/unzip the archive in the global directory:
/usr/share/apps/ksplash/pics

However, if you have multiple users, use the home directory:

~/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics

If ksplash/pics does not exist, simple create the directories with:

mkdir -p ~/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/pics

and unpack/unzip it there - Feb 08 2002

besides usefulness for visually impaired folk and monochrome displays, I think these icons have a lot of neat factor, I could see myself theming my whole desktop this way if I can.

hi,

are you realy that K-proud that you cant have anything else on your desktop than a big KDE symbol? and if so, why do you think that everybody has the feel the same?
The pages subtitle is "EyeCandy for your KDE Desktop" - and that, in my opinion, does not restrict it to backgrounds with big KDE symbols on them.
btw, I didnt sign that petition. - Feb 07 2002
