There was a discussion about rhgb on the shrike-list and Jonathan Blandford said: "I'm glad to see lots of interest in this, but it'd be great if people wait until it's a bit more functional." So it seems like someone is working, or is going to work, on it. - May 15 2003

I really like the normal borders, as seen in screenshot #2. With the dotted border all I could think about was the dotted border and not the window decoration. With the normal border the very stylish window decoration gets the attention. And it's very nice.

I also really like the new K button. But I have to say that the handles on those scissors are huge! :)

I also don't understand why there's a big pen on the desktop icon. How about a lamp or something instead? You don't write directly on your desktop, do you? At least not with a pen that big. :)

It looks good, but two things that I liked better with the older version: 1. The widgets were square, the new ones look like they expand at the top. 2. The gradient had a "stripe effect" that I thought was nice.

A suggestion: Pick another color than green for the back, forward and up arrows. It would be an effective way to decrease the number of "it looks like XP" posts. Plus it could look good, too. :)

SVG icons are vector based icons. You can decrease and increase size without losing quality. I don't know how that is similar to the icons in MacOS X, because they aren't vector based. - Jun 20 2002

Icon Sub-Sets by simonmacmullen 16 comments

Well, I don't agree with you. Tastes differ. But regarding your comment about Ximian icons: I'd say it's often the other way around - some people don't like the icons just because they are associated with GNOME. That I think is stupid, especially as I truly like Jimmac's and Tigert's work. - Jun 19 2002

Thanks for the dragon icon. But that dragon is gonna get a heck of a tan. The sun is shining so brightly right into his face. Seriously though, maybe the light source could be a little bit fainter on the dragon version? Now he's almost hiding behind the light. - Apr 23 2002

This is now my favorite window decoration for KDE. Many thanks for creating it and making it available. One little comment: The window title text feels a little "trapped" inside the (nicely drawn) frame. Maybe you could try some more spacing around the text? - Apr 13 2002

Oh well, here we go. I don't find Red Hat harder to install than SuSE or Mandrake. I used to like Mandrake, but their *drake tools are just too buggy (they should concentrate on a few tools and make them perfect) so Red Hat's control panel in 7.2 looks pretty attractive. Red Hat's distributions often have a very solid ground (Alan's kernels are very well put together) and bero creates good KDE packages, so I don't see how that makes a bad desktop distribution. I do try all distributions from Mandrake, Red Hat and SuSE though, so I'm eagerly awaiting the new ones from SuSE and Red Hat expected soon. - Apr 07 2002
