I installed qtscriptgenerator-0.2.0, restarted KDE but it's unfortunately still the same situation as before.

Do you have any other idea what could be wrong? - Jan 21 2013

When clicking on "Configure...", I just see the message "Cannot import script extension qt" in the "Stop" input field.

Any idea what could be missing? I've built it with marble + protobuf support and without GPS support.

Using KDE 4.9.97 (4.10 RC2) and Qt 4.8.4.

Also: Could you provide also just a regular source tarball instead of/additional to the script? This would make it much easier for source based distributions such as Gentoo to package it and I assume the same goes for binary distributions with automated toolchains for packaging. - Jan 17 2013

It seems the width of the applet is always determined based on the width of all running tasks, even those on another desktop/activity.

When disabling the options "Only show tasks from the current desktop/activity", the full widget is populated.

PublicTransport

Plasma 4 Extensions by fpuelz 808 comments

There are several issues when it comes to the packaging of public transport, which make the life of distribution packages just way more complicated than necessary:

No component separator is used for 'beta' in the version string. Please use 0.10_beta3 instead of '0.10beta3'.
The toplevel directory's name is different from the package name. Please just use the plain package name (publictransport) or the full package name (publictransport-0.10_beta3) for the toplevel directory and don't append "random" strings like timetablemate-0.2.2 to it.
Do not ship your custom installer. Concentrate on the development of the application itself and let distribution packagers do this. Shipping installer scripts like your install.sh introduce several dangerous things because they bypass the native package manager and endanger system consistency:
- package manager controlled files might get overwritten
- the package manager might overwrite files installed by the script
- upgrade/uninstallation of files provided by the installer is not handled in any way
- outdated files are never cleaned up, resulting in a bunch of stale files in the system over time
- when shared-objects are installed, they lead to dynamic-linking inconsistencies on distributions which allow so called "impure" package building from source (All RPM + DEB based ones, Arch, Gentoo, ...)

Such installer scripts might seem to be an easy way for beginners to get such an package up and running quickly on their system, but in the long term they cause more work & pain than they solve due to the reasons listed above and some more.

Just stumbled upon this issues while updating the Gentoo ebuild for this package which is still on version 0.6.10 in Gentoo's KDE overlay, probably also due to some of the reasons listed above. - Feb 16 2011

Customizable Weather Plasmoid (CWP)

Plasma 4 Extensions by jaegerschnitzel 1067 comments

Hi,

your weather plasmoid is fantastic!

But wouldn't it be great to have support for all this in the "official" KDE Weather Dataengine?

I think it would help KDE and your own plasmoid a lot if all this could be merged upstream.

Then you could connect your plasmoid to the KDE weather dataengine and it would make your plasmoid a real 'MVC' plasmoid. Currently the plasmoid contains M+V+C all in one container, but the plasmoids are actually meant to be only the V part.

All other weather plasmoids would profit by this merge, as they now could suddenly use all this datasources too.

I think 'spstarr' (most of the time around in #plasma on FreeNode or reachable via shawn.starr@rogers.com) would be really really happy about this.

Best regards,
Elias P.

Hi,

some CPU IDs contain a lot of spaces, so it looks like this:
http://rivendell.homelinux.org/users/elias/pics/glass-monitor-1.png

If you add "|tr -s [:blank:]" to the end of the command at line 49 in "glassmonitorv0.1.theme" it looks like this:

I couldn't believe what happened after cleaning my system (~15.000 dead symlinks/zero byte files/...).

That's a great idea... on the one hand, it should be accessible from programms like kopete, kmail (send invitation by mail), on the other hand, it should be usable through editors like kate, kwrite etc.... so the best would be a library/plugin to achieve this.

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by nookie 60 comments

Generally, this is a really good idea, but I think, it isn't realizable, because there are too much different packaging systems. What we would need first, would be an abstraction layer between packaging systems and distributions, because it would be nearly impossible to integrate all known packaging systems and distributions into this single app and wouldn't be worth the effort.

One of the biggest problems is IMHO, to unify the different distributions into a single abstraction layer, because mostly, even different versions of the same distribution aren't compatible.

So I think, to realize an application like this, we first would need a lot of other things... ;(
