The orange ribbon supporting Ukraine ...

Karamba & Superkaramba by TokRa 9 comments

..for everyone supporting
democracy in Ukraine!
It's good to know that there
are still people defending
democracy and that political
leaders cannot manipulate
everyone. I'm watching in
amazement how all those people
stay out in the blistering cold
to support their cause.
I hope they will finally
win. Whatever the outcome of
this - the world will now look
much more closely what's going on
there - which is already a big success by itself.
BTW - just out of interest: What
is "TAK"? You see it on the news
on nearly every flag. Is it the
name of the opposing party or
does it have a meaning - or
both? - Nov 27 2004
Taskbar v2 (flat + thumbnails)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by lucher 201 comments

I can highly recommend it.
I use the taskbar since quite
some time now without major
problems. One thing that would
be great though: There should
be a configurable list of apps
TaskbarV2 does not take
a screenshot of. Because when
I run a video in KPlayer
the video stutters every 15
seconds or so. I suspect this
is because TaskbarV2 is taking
its screenshots. - Nov 09 2004

Please make this a part
of the KDE project. This is
so much better than the default

strange applets delivered by
default with KDE (games, moon phase)
and this is really useful for
a broad audience so I think this
should be a default part of KDE! - Oct 24 2004

My immediate reaction was
to vote it down.
This is because in the small
view this looked rather simple
and bulky and FDP is a German
political party. This is a
strange connotation and for
a brief moment I thought someone
would do some advertising here.
After reading the
comments I zoomed the icon
and it looks much better with
higher resolution, I agree.
The pages of each book should
be discernible though IMHO.
I still think that the book should
be sorted in PDF order. I certainly
wouldn't want to have an FDP

Taskbar v2 (flat + thumbnails)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by lucher 201 comments

This has become really cool.
It should one day be integrated
into KDE by default! The button
look of the ordinary taskbar
completely destroyed the transparent
look.
Minor glitch:
My desktop background image isn't
continued seamlessly. It looks like
TaskbarV2 took the wrong part of
the image.

Quite often (especially while
webbrowsing and changing pages
often) the hover image shows
an outdated image.
I know this is because you only can
do the screenshot once in a while
because it would slow down the
computer too quick if a
large screenshot is taken every
second. But I have an idea:
Would it be possible to request
just a single pixel close to the
corner of the window and if it
is different to what is saved
then update immediately!
If that doens't work, would it be
possible to do a screenshot always
before showing the thumbnail if
and only if the window is not
minimized?

Thanks for all the work so far
it's really appreciated. - Sep 24 2004

Taskbar v2 (flat + thumbnails)

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by lucher 201 comments

It already replaced the normal
taskbar on my desktop.
I also noticed some flickering
when updating the taskbar
(i.e. while downloading) and
when moving the mouse over
the taskbar.
And when I click on some of the
task buttons to activate a window
all transparency is lost and a
normal button is drawn. This
is a pity because it destroys
the transparent look which is
the main reason why I'm using the
taskbar. Hope this will be fixed
in future versions.
Anyway, thanks for providing
this great app! - Sep 21 2004

What happened to the quality

Providing a software with a known

You already know that it's a pre-alpha

Quanta Plus

Developers Apps by amantia 72 comments

I've been a long time Quanta user but
recently use KDevelop and quite like
it for web editing.
Quanta has become increasingly slow
and unstable with recent releases.
And a crash while doing ordinary
text editing is just unacceptable
and highly annoying.
This is because of all the new
VPL stuff I suppose. That does not
mean that it's generally a bad idea
to implement this - but if you
don't need it you are probably
better off with a different editor
for the time being.
I don't need a Dreamweaver-like
app because I'm using just the plain text editing stuff. The only thing I'm
missing in KDevelop is auto-completion
for PHP variables and PHP syntax hints. But KDevelop has got a
decent file browser which is much
more important IMHO.
I absolutely hate that tree view and project management is useless if not everyone in your company uses Quanta. - Jun 12 2004

This is my default icon set from

Clean, quite complete and looks good
Thanks for all the hard work.
Some (small!) notes:

1)
In Konq thee are 3 Icons for
KFileReplace, FSViewPArt and Cervisia.
They are mot that important but difficult to remove because they are embedded. Now it would be fine if
these 3 icons were provided just for
the sake of completeness.

2)
More folder icons would be great!
This is actually something were
Lila cold surpass all existing
icon sets because they all lack
IMHO many folder icons. They
shouldn't (I'm no artist) be very
difficult to create because they just
combine the folder icon and some
other small icon. Currently I'm
missing the folder_html and folder_images icons. And it would
be great if some more folder colours
(not only green, red, yellow, blue)
were provided, especially orange.
And folder_download would certainly
be handy for lots of users. - Apr 20 2004

Of course KDE and KDE apps

If the KKK would release a

you use it. I certainly wouldn't.
What I want to say here is:
Inform yourself about this guy

If you say afterwards - I don't
mind - that's really OK for me.
I don't want to begin an endless
political exchange here but I
really think it's important people
know whose software they are using
in this case because I find this
all rather extreme. Perhaps it
isn't that extreme from an American

this is certainly *very* radical.

this is finally a decent replacement
for XMMS. I was sceptical at first
and didn't try amaroK for a long
time. But good ratings on KDE-APPS.org
made me finally download it.
And I have to admit: This is really
cool. The only thing I really don't like (not only in amaroK but also
in XMMS) is that you can't dock
the playlist to the main window
(i.e. integrate the playlist and
the player in one window) and that
the main window isn't resizable.
And finally (while I'm doing the
wishlist ;-) ): A skin which looks
a bit more conservative would be nice.
Why do MP3-Players always have to
look completely different to any other
app? They are never grey but always
in some strange dark blue or black.

pitch black or dark blue.

basically a nice app.
The best native IRC app for KDE
in terms of functionality IMHO. Unfortunately two things are
bothering me:
1) The looks: This app really looks
like sh**. This is not just a nuisance
but a major usability concern.
Who can use all those weird looking
icons?? Why didn't they just use the
crystal icons? For many functions
a good replacement is available.
2) Non-Standard KDE behaviour:
Why can't I configure the toolbar
and keys like in any other KDE app?
3) A stupid bug is keeping me from
using this app and still using mIRC
via WINE: The media types settings
are extremely buggy. Whenever I
download sth. via DCC the assigned
app isn't run though I entered it
in the settings page.
4) There is no need for "Save Settings". It's rather confusing
when you change settings click on
*OK*(!!) and after a restart of
your app the settings are gone.
Not very user-friendly.

Well, these are the obvious things.
And they would be very easy to fix.
I always find it quite strange when
so many hours of hard work go into an
application and the programmers don't
seem to care the slightest bit if it's
looking professional usability-wise. - Jan 03 2004
Changing permissions if you own the File

Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements by belze 14 comments

This is basically a good idea.
And it doesn't necessarily
have to be a security hazard:
By default there should be just
a message:
This file is not executable.
If you want to run it you have
to change its permissions by
doing bla,bla. Be aware that
executing files of unknown origin
can be a security hazard.

There should be a somewhat
"hidden" option in the control
panel which enables a more
complex dialog letting you
directly change permissions.
This should be off by default.
Whoever finds this option
in the Control Panel and enables
this should know what he's doing. - Dec 27 2003

Karamba & Superkaramba by ageitgey 74 comments

Just tried it out.
It looks really cool.
I remember there's been
an SK theme which could read its
apps/icons from a directory. Maybe
you could grab the code from there?
now one thing I really miss
is
1) the ability to support
app groups (1 level would be sufficient): If I create a subdirectory in that directory
with further icons I would like
to be able to access those icons
by clicking on the directory icon i.e.
the taskbar would be replaced with
the icons from the next level.
This way I could remove my whole
K-Menu with this and edit it
easily by using the file manager.
Finally (I'm just dreaming...)
it would be great if optionally
there would be a text while
hovering over an icon describing
how the application is called I'm
about to run. - Oct 25 2003

Karamba & Superkaramba by Matti 1794 comments

I recently installed LW++ and
am quite impressed. It looks really
good and is so far the only thing
i use superkaramba for.
What constantly fails to work me
though is:
1) The left of the two buttons
in the upper right corner has an
option radar map - but it only
yields an image of a camera and
the message "error - image failed
to load".
2) The right one of the two
buttons does nothing at all.
3) The 5 day forecast should
better seperate the temperatures
for day and night with a slash
instead of a dash, i.e. -10/-4
instead of -10-4. I often find
that a bit confusing to read.

BTW: I'm using the location
"Dusseldorf-International(-Airport)"

Icon Sub-Sets by Carlitus 258 comments

For making this iconset.
And for making it "COMPLETE".
You are right. There is never
an "end" to this, because there
a so many apps out there.
But I've tried many other iconsets
published here on kde-look and
none of them had enough icons
for Konqueror so they are hardly
usable from my point of view.
Noia 0.95 already contained enough
icons to be really usable and is
the icon set I used ever since.
The "1" in front of the point is
well deserved.
So again, thank you for giving
this to the community. - Sep 14 2003
