Looks great, but is there any chance of getting this in at least one widescreen resolution? :D - Aug 14 2009
The latest version of QtCurve is really quite impressive. I do however have two small suggestions that, in my eyes, would make it much better.

1) Add an option to the Menus & Toolbars section for "spreading" (for lack of a better word) a gradient across all toolbars and the menu bar.

2) Add an option to increase/decrease the size of buttons by a user-defined number of pixels. This is an option I've only seen in Domino back in KDE3, and it added a lot of usability when using KDE in a media center setup. - Jul 10 2009

Great idea, I'll try this ASAP. I always zoom the screen to the size of the brushes window in GIMP, but with the ATI card in my laptop (and the consequential suckage of compositing on it), this isn't practical at all. Thanks for your work on this. - Jun 18 2009
STasks

Plasma 4 Extensions by mbaszczewski 445 comments

First, I just want to echo the sentiments of many other users here and say this is truly one of the best task managers I've ever used. There are two very small suggestions which I think, if implemented, would make STasks the best around period. (Sorry if either of these has already been suggested, but I'm too lazy to comb through ~30 pages of comments to find out. :) )

1) Add an option for a user-adjustable delay for expanding tasks. The expanding animation looks really cool, but as it currently stands, it practically makes the applet unusable for me as it's hard to land the mouse on the task I want.

2) Allow for dragging tasks to the desired desktop in the pager. This is one of the few small things I still miss from KDE 3. AFAIK, none of the Plasma task managers support this yet. Is it a limitation of Plasma?

Thanks for all your hard work on this excellent add-on to KDE. IMO, this should be the default task manager, as it gives a very distinct look to the desktop. I look forward to the next release. :D - Jun 08 2009

It seems like this might benefit from a more fitting name. Based on its current one, I would think it's something along the lines of GnuCash - personal/business finance management. System Tools (NOT OS or ROMS) by domseichter 83 comments

This app has been a lifesaver for me since I switched to Linux - easily the most functional batch renamer I've used. One thing I'm wondering whether it'd be possible to implement which I would find very useful is the ability to name a folder based on its contents - e.g., inserting the artist name from the id3 tag of the mp3 it contains. I'm always having to manually rename tons of folders since the trend these days is to have mp3s organized in the artist/album layout, and I prefer artist - [year] album. One other thing that would be nice is a disc # token in the TagLib plug-in, if TagLib even supports this.

Aside from these suggestions, I can't think of any way to improve this - great job on a practically perfect application! - Jun 01 2009

If this is intended to be a proper KDE app and not a Qt app, why is its settings dialog found in General -> Options instead of the standard Settings -> Configure <appname>? Again, a tiny nitpick the only thing I've found "wrong" so far. - May 17 2009

Graphic Apps by bico 16 comments

Just thought I'd let anyone who's waiting around for a KDE4 port of this know that, unless I'm missing something, the main functionality provided by this program can be achieved with KWin natively: Window menu -> Configure window behavior -> Advanced -> Enable Hover. Now whenever you move the mouse over a shaded window's titlebar, it will unshade while the cursor is over that window. This can be enhanced further by setting certain windows to always start shaded and on top - hitting an entire screen edge obviously won't work unless a shaded window is horizontally maximized and placed at the top of the screen, but just having a couple in the corners works great.

I'd like to try this out, largely since Amarok 2 currently lacks support for visualizations, but the Ubuntu package appears to be outdated; it depends on libtag1c2, which has been replaced by libtag1c2a (as of 9.04, maybe earlier). Anyway, keep up the good work! - May 03 2009

Great work. I got an error message when I installed it, but it seems to be working fine. It would be nice if there were some configuration though (or is there, and my lacking it is due to the error message?), at the very least the standard keyboard shortcut, and even better, allowing the user to choose a naming scheme, the compression format, default output directory, etc. - Apr 15 2009

Tying it down to only use RAR is quite limiting. Most of the people I would be e-mailing attachments to use Linux, and even those still on Windows will have just as easy a time opening a .zip or .7z file (both Free formats) as they would a .rar (which is proprietary). - Apr 15 2009

I mostly agree with Rahul. However, the convenient functionality you have in the screenshot for running any program as root really needs to be re-added to QuickSand in my opinion (as it was found in the Run As... option in Run Command under KDE 3), along with the "Add to Run Command Dialog" option that was found by right-clicking any applications in the KMenu. - Feb 25 2009

Panel Spacer

Plasma 4 Extensions by DanaKil 62 comments

The lack of this was actually keeping me from using a panel at all, so big thanks.

One note for anyone else that might run into the problem I had. The makefile installs the files to /usr/local/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_panelspacer.so and /usr/local/share/kde4/services/plasma-applet-panelspacer.desktop, but Plasma wasn't picking up the applet from that location on my system (Kubuntu 8.10 Alpha 6). This is easily remedied by moving the files to /usr/lib/kde4 and /usr/share/kde4/services, respectively. I'm pretty sure there's a way to tell CMake what directory to install to, but I was feeling lazy and that worked well enough for me. :) - Sep 30 2008

Really great work. We need more Emerald themes like this - very distinctive while still being good-looking and *not* tacky. The only thing this is missing is some custom buttons. If you like, I could tweak the colors of the ones I used in this theme - http://www.compiz-themes.org/content/show.php/Iceberg?content=87030 - to match yours and send them to you? I think they'd be a good match. :) - Sep 24 2008
Looks great. I really wish more people took the time to come up with a complete set of theme items like this; just about any doofus that can point and click can come up with a decent looking color scheme/panel background/whatever, but it takes a good eye and a bit of patience to put together several components that add up to more than the sum of their parts. Excellent work, indeed. :) - Sep 23 2008

Amarok 1.x Scripts by maxischmeii 104 comments

Looks like a really nice script - almost a whole app in and of itself, built right into Amarok. My only complaint is a good chunk of the config dialog is cut off due to my text size being set to 16. Surprisingly, resizing the window doesn't rectify this; all the widgets stay exactly as they were before resizing. I've never seen this behavior in any other Qt window. Call me lazy, but changing the text size every time I want to change the alarm settings seems like a bit of a hassle. :-) - Sep 18 2008
Open Yakuake here (like Open Konsole)

Dolphin Service Menus by slux83 12 comments

...that bothers me is I can't seem to get this integrated with the hotkey for "Open terminal here," which is how I pretty much always invoked this action. I tried changing the default terminal emulator to "yakuakehere.sh %f" under System Settings -> Default Applications, but when I press F4 in Konqueror, Yakuake just opens in ~ after displaying this output:

clear
mike@alexa:~$ cd '%f'
bash: cd: %f: No such file or directory
mike@alexa:~$ clear

So obviously, %f isn't getting expanded to the actual working directory. What I can't figure out is WTH not, when it's doing it perfectly fine for Konsole. I've been trying to fix this for an hour or so without any progress (tried some minor tweaks to yakuakehere.sh, replacing /usr/share/apps/konqueror/servicemenus/konsolehere.desktop with yakuakehere.desktop, setting the default terminal emulator to yakuakehere-key.sh - a one-line script whose only command is yakuakehere.sh, and probably a couple other things I don't remember at this point). If anyone knows how to "fix" this, I'd be greatly appreciative. - Sep 18 2008
Fully configurable gradients, plus tons of other options, in a universal engine - doesn't get much better than that. Huge thanks for all your excellent work.

There is one tiny thing I miss about Domino (which is what I used when QtCurve wasn't as configurable as I would have liked :-) ) - the ability to adjust the size of buttons by a few pixels. This goes a long way in giving apps a native 8'-10' UI feel, which is really nice on HTPC's. Have you given any thought to adding this functionality to QtCurve? - Sep 17 2008

When I saw this post back on the front page, this plug-in - http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=7753&page=1 - immediately came to mind. It allows you to set a single color to be partially transparent for your windows (meaning, for example, you could have the part of the window which contains the menubar, toolbars, etc. set to 90% while the actual content section of the window is still opaque). The only catch is it doesn't yet work with Blur. :-( Keep your eyes on that post though - sounds like it'll be getting fixed soon. - Sep 16 2008

I couldn't agree more, but from what I heard (within the past month or so), they're working on a Coverflow that's done in Qt, which would probably integrate better as a KPart with Konqueror and Dolphin. The really nice thing about it is it doesn't use OpenGL - hopefully this will mean relatively low CPU usage, as Gloobus currently puts my CPU usage at around 100% (Pentium 4 / nVidia 7600GS). - Aug 12 2008
