That sounds like a great workaround. I haven't tried to work on this idea b/c ageity had said that alternate keyboard events would be handled in an upcoming version, which would have included the up/down arrows on your keyboard. Mind if I include it into iLaunch for now? - Nov 22 2003

It does support 64x64 icons. What you might be seeing is that when you load it up, by default it searches for your current icon theme and finds the 32x32 size icons just as it is mostly supported by the icons packages here on kdelook.org. BUT, if you right-click on it, go to Configure Theme and select Custom Icon Directory, it will bring up a kdialog where you can enter a directory with the icons you want to use instead. For example:
/usr/share/icons/Umicons/64x64/apps
That's what I've been doing, but I suppose I could put in a configure option to select the size you want, but the drawback is the first time users initial startup will require more configuring before they can use it. - Nov 18 2003

Ok, to help figure out what went wrong.. 1) remove the ~/.superkaramba/iLaunch.rc file (ie. rm -f ~/.superkaramba/iLaunch.rc)
2) in the iLaunch.py file change line 28 to: "debug" = 1
3) run this in a terminal to check the debug output and even post it here to help me help you if you can
waiting to hear what happens.

It finally installed (version 3) after changing two lines in the .cpp files(actions.cpp & details.cpp). It runs, sorta now. None of the links on the left, navigation panel activate anything like Home, Settings, Documents, etc., but Properties works when a file is highlighted. Am I missing a configuration option somewhere that allows these to work correctly? Running from a terminal doesn't show any errors except for some ASSERT warnings (ASSERT: "info.isValid()" in konq_infolistviewitem.cc (123) ).

Okay, I just tried a test using "winexcvs /home/p0z3r/xnews/Xnews.exe" after renaming an icon I wanted to use for 'winexcvs' and it worked fine. Although this method won't make the icon different if you use multiple applications using wine or winexcvs. (ie cp /usr/share/icons/whatever/wine.png /usr/share/icons/whatever/winexcvs.png)
I'm thinking about adding that optional icon location field in the near future, but this should work for now. In iLaunch, the arguments get dropped to make the icon name it searches for.. if you type in 'mozilla firebird', it would look for the icon mozilla.png, but it would still launch 'mozilla firebird'. And, if it can't find an icon, it would give you a default icon. Hope this helps some.. but again, I'm going to rework the icon scheme a bit in the future.

For applications that don't have an icon, I was cp'ing an icon I wanted to use and renaming it. (Ie cp konsole.png aterm.png) The applications should run if they are in your PATH. However, I am working on an alternate way of adding applications with more options. Like a dialog box with a more than one field. One for display name, one for application name, one for icon location. What distro are you using? and what applications do you have to define a special PATH for? I would love to get this working for you.

How about a preview area in the sidebar? Let's say in the right hand window you have highlighted an image or some other media. It would then display (enlarged format but not full size, or other media would display a default icon or image representing it) in the preview area on the left, in the sidebar. Maybe using cervisia like you can in konqueror preview mode. This would be similar to how XP handles media selected in the explorer window.

What I do at home for the different named icon issue..
For example, there isnt' really an icon for aterm in the Aqua icons I use. So I go in and copy and then paste and rename it to whatever I want. In this case I copied konsole.png and then pasted & renamed to aterm.png. That lets me use anything I want when it doesn't exist. I've done this before in general simply because there are so many obscure applications that don't get included into the icon sets that are released.
I'll see if there is another way to do this.. like another kdialog box.. or simply a way to have a multi-line input box to handle the application, name, optional icon, etc.

I know that Mandrake 9.1 doesn't set this env variable. I've had similar problems being that Mandrake uses /usr/share/apps instead of /usr/local/kde/share/apps/ and there is also a library directory that is different. You could just set KDEDIR in your .bashrc to where ever your kde root directory is..

I edited most of the sidebar.html file in ~/.sidebar successfully. What is the vfolder for? I get "protocol not supported" when trying to use that to open Applications. Note: on the install, I had to cp all the 'make install' files to /usr/share/apps and /usr/lib/kde3/ b/c Mandrake doesn't have it setup to use /usr/local/kde/.

I think I found the problem you were talking about with the starting of iLaunch. In testing, I was running from the same directory at the theme file in a terminal. (ie. superkaramba iLaunch.theme)
After installing it on another system and starting it up, I noticed a problem with the images, also the session support doesn't seem to always work unless you reload it before logging out (that makes sure the .rc file gets written, apparently superkaramba doesn't do that upon exiting the session)
I'll get to work on this shortly..

The "Add an icon:" box is from kdialog. There might have been something causing it to not accept input, but I haven't ran across this yet. (Btw, I use mandrake but I may install suse to test this out)

As far as the konqueror issue, you should be able to use any of the command line options with konqueror. So, for example:
konqueror /home/p0z3r
-or-
konqueror http://www.kdelook.org
Try that and see what happens. I'm not at home to test this right now, but it should work.

If you ever wanna get "really" rid of the Trash icon from your dekstop. Do this:
Open up ~/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals in your favorite editor
Change the line Trash=$HOME/Desktop/Trash
to Trash=/home//Trash
Then Shift + Delete the Trash icon on your desktop
The next time you login, the Trash icon won't load up anymore :)

Currently it is using the function widgetClicked() which only has left, right, middle, and scroll mouse functions. I knew starting this, that it has limitations to people that don't have a scroll wheel on their mouse. I'll see if I can come up with a work around for this, or contact the superkaramba developer about adding in more keys (ie buttons) to be supported in that callback so I can code for it. Hopefully their will be a solution for this, but I appreciate any feedback about my project. I'm glad you checked it out! Feedback is always welcome.
